Jean-François Manzoni is Nestlé Professor at IMD, where he also serves as President. His main areas of focus are leadership, the development of high performance organizations and corporate governance. The recipient of several awards for teaching excellence, he also received numerous awards for his research and case writing activities, including for his seminal book “The set-up-to-fail syndrome: How good managers cause great people to fail” (with Jean-Louis Barsoux).
A citizen of Canada and France, he’s been working with executives for 30 years, living in 5 countries and working in more than 30. Over that time, he’s been struck by how difficult it is for executives to internalise new behaviours; today’s executives know more and more about “good leadership practices”, but they typically know much more than they do. As a result, strong improvement intentions when leaving development programs are often short lived upon returning back to work. Closing that knowing-doing gap is a must for executives facing an ever more challenging world, and for executive development professionals whose license to operate is increasingly challenged by clients and new competitors.
Jean-François will share with Thinkers 50 what he and others have learned on this front over the last few years.
